A Thousand Kindnesses
Basil was the first ever person to ask a musician to play a Bruce Springsteen song for me.
Basil always insists on carrying heavy bags for me.
Basil always gets the umbrella from the car so I don’t get rained on in my work clothes.
Basil makes whatever I want for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. When I can’t decide on anything, he always makes up something wonderful.
Basil goes grocery shopping every week because he knows I really don’t enjoy it.
Basil will offer to go on a separate shopping trip with me so I can pick out coffee, beer, and wine, because he knows those are the things I do enjoy shopping for.
Basil scoops the last bits of peanut butter/tahini/cat food out of the jar/can because he knows I don’t have the patience to do a thorough job.
Basil finds fabulous clothes for me at thrift stores.
Basil makes everything vegan for me even though he is not a vegan.
Basil has researched both sides of my family tree for me, including help me interview my grandparents and aunt to help preserve what remains of my family history.
Basil remembers my favorite colors, favorite scents, favorite animals.
Basil listens to me talk about my dad and genuinely cares about preserving my father’s memory.
Basil listens to me say, “There is a great episode of South Park about [insert relevant topic here]” and then watches that episode of South Park with me.
Basil thinks about family and loved ones as I do, making them cookies and picking out cards to send them to show we are thinking of them.
This list could go on forever.
I endeavor to always be as wonderful to him every day as he is to me. And the love he shows me makes me a better, more loving person to everyone else.
Our love is made up of a thousand kindnesses. I hope in the life we live together we get to share thousands more.
I love you Basil. I can’t wait to marry you.
